Narnia, the exhibition, and a giveaway.
ENTRIES CLOSED.
Congratulations to the winners Lucy and Fiona. Both have been emailed to be notified.

Some books, some stories stay with you forever. The Chronicles of Narnia are like that for me. As a child I spent many hours in my parent’s wardrobe just in case the back finally gave up its magic and let me into the woods I was sure were at the back.
Some of the books were read to me by teachers, others I read myself. There was also a BBC TV series to watch. My own children have loved the books and the recent movies as well. Some stories cross generations and capture imaginations for years and years. I love when that happens, families sharing their love of stories.
You can imagine then, how excited my household was when we first discovered there was to be a Chronicles of Narnia interactive exhibition. The Green Eyed Girl had talked about it every day since she discovered it was coming. That’s a lot of talking.
The exhibition has interactive hands on experiences, as well as costumes from characters including The White Witch and the Pevensie children (I so wanted to be Susan when I was young.) Exhibition goers will be able to create their own mythical creatures featured in the films.
Authentic props, costumes and set dressings are on display, and as I have been told every day for a few weeks now, there is an interactive frozen waterfall.
There is also a recreation of the study where C.S.Lewis wrote the books. I may linger near this display for longer than is necessary.
Whether it is the fantasy, the mythical creatures, the characters or the writer of these classic adventures himself you love, there is something for everyone at this exhibition. I can not wait to go.
Now for the really good part – you can go to! I have two sets of passes to giveaway. Each set has four tickets, valued at just under $60 for Saturday 24th November. The exhibition is at Pavilion Waterfront, Docklands Ave, Docklands, Melbourne.
To be in the running to win one of these passes, leave a comment below telling me about your favourite childhood book.
Entries close TUESDAY 20th November at 6pm. At which time comments on this post will be closed. Winners will be notified via email. Please contact me via return email with your address so tickets can be posted to you.

Hi there,
I loved the Chronicles of Narnia too – in fact this week we have just borrowed The Magician’s Nephew from the library.
Choosing just one favourite? Argh! There were so many: Enid Blyton, Horse books, Choose your own adventure series, All the Green Year, Judy Blume (is that just a given?!)….
Cheers
Lucy
I would love to win a family pass to this exhibition – almost more than Miss Six – I think! Fingers crossed. My favourite childhood series was ‘The Famous Five’ by Enid Blyton. I particularly wanted to own a dog like ‘Timmy’ and pestered my parents for years until they finally gave in when I was twelve, re-homing a stray from the RSPCA.
My childhood was filled with books – picking a favourite would be too hard! I still remember following along in my copy of ‘The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe’ as my Prep teacher read it aloud every afternoon for weeks. I’m sure she read us lots of books over that year, but TLTW&TW is the one that sticks in my mind (and heart).
I vividly remember reading the Green Knowe books by LM Boston when I was about 10. They gave me the same sense of magic – an ‘otherworld’ feeling – as the Narnia books. It was an ancient house, though, that was the magical world. It was peopled with children and events from the past and I desperately wanted to have the sort of family that lived (with ghosts and mysteries) in the same house for a thousand years!
Hi
I also loved the Narnia books and have handed down my dog eared stained ratty old set to my 11 year old and he loves them too. He asked me the other day if we could have a day out together soon just the two of us. I was wracking my brain to think what we could do which would celebrate our mutual loves of history and reading (and avoid his third great love electronics!) – maybe the Immigration Museum? State Library? Didn’t sound very exciting ..but now this… absolutely perfect.
Like everyone else it’s hard choice as I read everything I could get my hands on including my father’s John Steinbeck when I was only 10 – not the most suitable reading for a 10 year old!
Anyway after the Narnia series perhaps Lord Of the Rings wins. Such a wonderful complex book imparting all sorts of life messages. I’ve read it 6 times and still get something different out of every re read. Thank heaven for those authors that truly can take us somewhere amazing.
I didn’t even know this exhibit was on! Thank you.
My favourite book growing up was Alice in Wonderland and The Secret Garden. I love them both equally for their strong female characters and whimsical worlds they created in my imagination.
I loved anything by Noel Streatfield. But adored The Ballet Shoes. Aspirational ballerina…
